Privacy Policy

1. What We Collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed password. We do not store payment information — BookVocabs is free.

When you use the app, we store the vocabulary words you save, the definitions attached to them, and your flashcard review history (so spaced repetition works). Images and PDFs you upload are processed to extract text and are not retained on our servers after processing.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To operate and improve BookVocabs
• To sync your vocabulary and study progress across devices
• To send transactional emails (e.g. password reset) — no marketing unless you opt in
• To monitor for abuse and maintain service reliability

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to run BookVocabs:

• Supabase — authentication and database hosting
• Google Cloud Vision API — OCR for image uploads
• Anthropic Claude API — AI-generated word definitions
• Vercel — web hosting and analytics

Each provider has its own privacy policy. We share only the minimum data necessary for each service to function (e.g. the word and sentence context are sent to the Claude API to generate a definition, but your account identity is not).

4. Data Retention

Your account data (email, vocabulary, study history) is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time, which permanently removes all associated data within 30 days.

5. Cookies

We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Vercel Analytics uses anonymized, cookie-free page-view counts.

6. Children's Privacy

BookVocabs is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. To exercise these rights, email us or delete your account directly from the app settings.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced via email. Continued use of BookVocabs after changes constitutes acceptance.
